This is how we light fabric

One of this weeks assignments was to shoot three images with fabric and to use different sources of light. Thanks to my grandmother, I was able to take different shots with four types of blankets. One of my favorite pictures was using a monkey quilt with silver reflecting paper underneath it. With this image, I was actually able to see the full reflection of a couple of the monkeys which actually made it look kind of like water with all of the wrinkles in the image. Here are a couple of the shots that I came up with.

Baseball...Baseball...and more Baseball

So this week, I have done nothing but watch baseball and take pictures! Tuesday night I got to go home and take pictures at the Carolina League All-Star game; Wednesday night I went to an Asheboro Copperheads game; Thursday night I went to a Kannapolis Intimidators game; and Friday night I went to a Durham Bulls game. Of all the nights, Friday had to have been one of the best nights. Not only did I finally get the kind of action shots that are required but I also got a media pass that allowed me to actually go into the dugout. I've always dreamed of being a big named sports photographer who went to every single baseball game and took pictures, and Friday night that almost came true. Ever since I started taking pictures of baseball, I always wanted the opportunity to go into the dugout to actually take some shots. Of course not being a professional photographer that would never happen. Now that I have had that experience, I can only imagine what it would be like to actually be able to do that for the rest of my life. We all go through stress, we all want to cry our eyes out, we all want to quit; but Friday night all of those things became completely worth it because I was finally able to do what I loved.

Artificial Light

This week we had an assignment where we had to take a picture using artificial light. I was trying to think of something perfect that would really describe who I was as a person as well as using the light to help create a great image. Several ideas came to mind when I first got this assignment such as where I was going to have the picture taken as well as what object I really wanted. While sitting at my apartment, I came up with the idea of having my Eiffel Tower clock outside on my deck so that the sun wasn't completely overpowering the entire image. Little did I know that my plant outside was in full bloom, so I decided to take an image with both of them together. Here is the final product.

The stranger who likes to play with fire

Today in lab, we were supposed to go and take a picture of someone that we don't know in an environmental setting. For this assignment, a group of us decided to go to the fire department to take some pictures of the firefighters. They were very nice about letting us go in and take pictures. The two guys were Nathan Shepherd and Billy Green. They were very nice about putting their gear on and smiling. Here is what I came up with.

VBS at Abbotts Creek

Nothing gives me more joy than being able to see children, teens, and adults having a great time worshiping the Lord. This evening I got the opportunity to go home and take pictures at Vacation Bible School. Of course we have music, crafts, games, a little bit of friendly competition, some bible study, but most of all a lot of fun just being together and worshiping our Lord. Tonight was the second night of VBS and the story for tonight was about Daniel in the lions den. Some may know this story by heart and some may night. Unfortunately I didn't get to listen to any of the studies but I know this story pretty well. One of my favorite parts of the evening was when I was sitting in the choir room with some of the younger kids and they were just talking about how those lions must have been hungry and yet they didn't touch him all because God closed their mouths. What would you do if you were in a lions den? Would you scream and run, would you just sit and wait for the lion to eat you, or if you were like my mother; would you try and pet it because it was just one big kitty? I have a passion for photography, but my main passion in life is being able to worship the Lord with music. Unfortunately because I'm in school this summer, I was not able to help lead the music like I have the last several years in a row but at least I do get to take part in something special. One of the things that I will never forget is being able to go up and help lead one of the songs that we have every single year. I was lucky enough to be standing and singing beside one of my best friends and getting the opportunity to lead along side of her to the children in our church which makes it all the more special. I'm hoping that one day I can be just as courageous as Daniel and face a challenge just like he did and not be afraid because I know that God is always with me. Before I end this blog post, I wanted to share the scripture for this years VBS. "Great is our Lord, and of great power; his understanding is infinite." Psalm 147:5. I know this isn't your typical blog post but this is what I wanted to share with you guys this week. I hope you enjoy!

ABC Natural

We had our first major project due this week on top of all of the other assignments which made everyone a little bit crazy but that's okay. For this assignment, we were to go out and shoot all of the letters of the alphabet using sides of buildings and other every day items that you see all across town. After a lot of searching, this is what I came up with. Hope you enjoy.

Parks and Recreation

When you think of parks and recreation, you immediately think about tennis, skateboarding, baseball, hockey, football, etc. Tonight I got to go to a Dash game with my family. One of the things that I love most about baseball is the fact that you never really know what is going to happen and what kind of awesome shots you are going to get. Here is one of the pictures that I took. Hope you enjoy!
